Field note
Why Friday refill reminders crowd Sunday counters
Pharmacy apps often celebrate Friday evening reminder open rates. Counters tell a different story on Sunday afternoon.
When a refill reminder lands after 8pm on Friday, many patients cannot collect until the weekend. In northern retail pharmacies we reviewed, Sunday staffing was already thin because counselling slots concentrated on weekdays. The app counted the reminder as a successful “nudge”; the outlet experienced a queue of patients who had been told to come “as soon as possible.”
What to measure instead
Pair reminder sends with pickup-complete events that only fire when the parcel or bag leaves staff hands — not when a locker is reserved. Then chart pickup by day-of-week against reminder send hour. The chart is usually enough for operations leads to shift windows without a product redesign.
A mild constraint
If your chain runs 24-hour outlets beside standard hours, segment before you average. Mixing them hides the Sunday problem that only the daytime stores feel.
